Axe Throwing

Tonight, Chad and I went axe throwing after working out at the gym. There is a great axe throwing place near the movie theater in town that other people have been going to and we have talked about trying for a few years. Mondays are discounted, so of course, that's the day we chose to go. I was a bit hesitant and ended up loving it.  Had was excited and was not disappointed. I would highly recommend doing this as a date night to anyone thinking about it!

Wicked Nails

After Noel and I saw Wicked for her birthday, we stopped at the Claire's next to the theater and got a few "souvenirs." One of mine was a nail polish set. I have been excited to use the nail polish and have the perfect excuse today (I'm going to the movie with the hubby tonight), so I painted my nails this morning. I am a bit disappointed because the colors weren't as vivid as I had expected, but I am happy to have pretty nails.

Book Store Haul

For date night, Chad and I decided to go to Barnes and Noble. It’s a bit of a drive, but very worth it to be able to walk amongst the books rather than buying them online. We are both in a self-improvement phase of life, and some our books reflect it.

Tuesday Movie

It’s hard to find inexpensive dates this time of year. However, we have discovered that AMC theaters has huge discounts on tickets for Tuesday nights. We discovered this last month when we saw The Boys in the Boat. Tonight, we took advantage of it and saw One Love (a movie about Bob Marley). Considering I’m not a huge fan of these kind of movie, it is the perfect way to enjoy time spent with the hubby doing something he enjoys.

Happy Lemon, or Not

There is a Happy Lemon shop next to the Crumbl near me. I thought it was a place that sold mostly lemonade type drinks and had been thinking about going there for a while. Tonight, Chad and I went there for our date night before finishing our birthday shopping for Noel. When we went into the shop with bright yellow walls, we were slightly disappointed.

Happy Lemon is not a lemonade shop in any way. They sell mostly tea type drinks. There were only two drinks that were mixed with lemon that didn’t have tea. We both got strawberry lemonade. It was good but not what I was hoping for when we went.

Puzzle Time

For date night, I thought it would be fun to get a puzzle from the thrift store to put together. I was a bit shocked at the selection. There weren’t so many that it was hard to make a decision, but there were enough that there was a decision to be made. We ended up buying two: one that lights up and one with a pretty winter scene.

When we got home, we decided to started with the light up puzzle which has to be put together before mounting it with lights. We spent about two hours trying to do the edges, but didn’t get too far. Then, Noel took over after we went to bed and almost finished the edges. I have a feeling she will be the one to do the majority of it, but we will all work on it until it’s done.

Chicken Socks

Last summer, Noel and I bought matching chicken socks before heading out to Utah because we thought it would be funny to walk into my dad’s house wearing them. Then, we forgot to wear them until we were getting ready to leave. I haven’t worn them since.

Tonight, I looked for socks to wear for date night, but my athletic socks seems to be disappearing. The only socks I could find that matched were fuzzy socks and knee high socks. The two pair at the top of the drawer were chicken and Wonder Woman. I picked chicken this time.

Knee highs will be great in the winter, but I really need to buy new socks.

Dating My Husband

When Chad and I started dating, we went out in Tuesdays while the kids were with their dad because that was the only day we had off and I didn’t have to pay a sitter. Within a few months, Chad was laid off from his job and my regular sitter had health problems, so he started wanting the kids while I worked a late training shift at a new job. Then, we got married and jumped into life as a married couple with three kids. At some point, we stopped dating as we struggled to survive paying for daycare and other household bills on $11 an hour each as the child support payments stopped for a few years. We simply stopped making our marriage a priority.

Within the last few years, we have started to realize that we need to rediscover who we are as a couple. This time we need to figure out who we are separate from the kids. In the meantime, I have become more social and realized that other couples are able to take trips and do other things without their kids.

In 2020, we started taking trips without the kids. It started as a few trips to the mountains while Sean and Noel were with their dad and Eric got to stay home with the dogs. Since then, we have gone to Mesa Verde, Mount Rushmore, and the Great Sand Dunes. Each trip has been good in a different way.

Recently, we have established date night again. Once again, we go out on Tuesdays. With Chad’s work schedule, it is the best time for us to go. Most of the time, we play tennis or pickle ball at nearby courts. We have also gone car shopping and out for ice cream. We have a deal that the person who loses the most weight over the past week gets to choose what we do, and it works out for the most part. He is much better at planning dates than I am. (I seriously chose to go fan shopping at Walmart last week.)

I’m not sure how this will evolve when it starts to get cold, but I am glad that we have set aside time to be with each other on a regular basis.
