Mini Bonfire

A bout a month or two ago, I decided I wanted to burn the rest of the candles I had in the cupboard rather than buy a new one. I did this in the jar from the last candle I bought. In the process, the jar filled up with everything that didn’t burn off of each candle. Then, I had a jar of wax and no wick, so I grabbed some cotton yarn and tried to make wicks. Unfortunately, the yarn was not strong enough to stand when the wax was liquid, I I just kept cutting more “wicks.” When it got to the bottom, there were a bunch of little pieces of yarn at the bottom. I put them all in a pile and set them on fire. The fire ended up getting to big that I couldn’t easily blow it out and had to get a pan lid from the kitchen to smother it. It probably wasn’t a good idea to play with fire on my desk next to my bed.

I feel like I need to add something to this story. The picture was taken before it got out of control. However, it was amazing how fast that happened.

Using Birthday Yarn

My sister bought me yarn for my birthday on Amazon. She chose the type of yarn and sent me a link to choose which set of colors I liked. I, of course, chose the most purple combination offered.

I have been so involved with other projects since then that I hadn’t taken the time to look for a project that would suit this yarn. However, with the hats for my kids and my sister’s family done and my sweater at the stitching phase, I am now ready to make something with this yarn.

Yesterday, I sat down and used the advanced search option on Ravelry, put in the attributes of the yarn, and searched for the perfect project. Unfortunately, the first 3 or 4 that caught my eye were discontinued patterns (how does this happen so much). Then, I saw a pattern for a pillow type thing. It is perfect! Would I rather be knitting? Yes! There just wasn’t a pattern with an existing pattern with the yardage requirements that fit what I have. It is a fun project, but I have made a few tweaks that work better for me. I have a feeling this will be another quick project. I wonder what I’ll do next.

The One Where You Buy a Book

Sometimes you buy the book

because you want the sweater.

Now, I need to come up with the money to buy all of the yarn needed. It looks like it will be about $90. Maybe someone will be generous for my birthday.

I’m Happy

I love knitting, and I love sales. Today, I get to combine the two. I went to Hobby Lobby to get yarn for a beanie Noel requested for all of her summer camping trips this year, and found out the yarn was on sale. That meant I could buy yarn for Eric, Sean, and Marleah as well all at the same time. (I know. I probably would have anyway.) I also picked up some for myself along with interchangeable needles and stitch markers. I am excited to get started! Knitting is my happy place!
